Tree hazard assessments.

Tree management is critical to any planning procedure. Local planning authorities require developers to demonstrate that significant consideration has been given to existing trees within any development design. A planning submission can be accepted or declined based on tree management considerations.

A BS5837: 2012 provides guidance for the long-term retention of trees on development sites and sets out a range of specifications in relation to design, demolition and construction.

At CWTS we provide all components of BS5837:2012 necessary for the planning system including onsite rapid surveys to help with time constraints and budgets .

These surveys are particularly useful for when a construction or demolition could come into conflict with a tree. Our advice from professional staff is always solutions based and aims to strike the balance of tree protection and preservation whilst offering a comprehensive planning support package for developers, architect and landowners .

A tree report is a synthesis of information and data gathered from an inspection or survey into one easy to understand report that can be tailored for specific requirements. Typically they include Tree Constraints and Arboricultural Impact Reports.

The UK’s Trees are facing an increasing threat from pests and diseases. Particularly, as demand for overseas semi mature trees and shrubs continues to rise.

Controlling the spread of spores can be hard given they can be wind blown or captured in the soil of potted plants. And yet, if overlooked they can cause serious long-impacts on our flora and fauna.

Environmental protection and sustainability are a top priority for CWTS. In most cases tree protection is integral to preserving the character and environment of a locality and local authorities have a responsibility to protect the tree(s) that contributes to visual amenity(s).

Our highly trained staff are particularly knowledgeable in the area of legally protected trees. We can undertake detailed applications to Local Authorities for works to trees protected by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and those in a Conservation Area.

We also have the in house capability to provide woodland management plans for designated woodlands such as Sites for Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), woodland within Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) or protected under Tree Preservation Order Legislation .

TPO and Conservation Area Advice.

Trees can be easily damaged and wounded, particularly in urban environments. Once a wound occurs, decay causing fungi can enter the heartwood and so the decay process begins. Tree decay detection is critical to help protect your trees, yourself, property and other person(s).

At CWTS we have a unique range of decay detection equipment including;

The Resistograph is another instrument used to determine the strength of the wood and internal condition of the tree. A microdrill enters the tree and any changes in the speed of the rotation of the drill are picked up and translated into a graph. The minute drill holes closes itself up without damage to the tree. Our arborists are then able to detect wood decay, stages of rot, hollow areas and ring structure. An ideal tool for determining the tree stability and longevity of the tree.

Tree preservation and protection is at the heart of all CWTS operations. Ancient and Veteran trees are living fossils that link us back to the great Wild Wood Britain used to be.

We offer a variety of management resolutions to promote and protect these living fossils. From the importance of leaving as is – to actions that help protect the trees, their habitats and the species that are dependent on them .

Woodlands are a defining feature of the British landscape. We have to protect and preserve them to our upmost ability. With the right approach- woodland management can provide benefits to wildlife, the climate (carbon capture) public amenities education as well as provide an income to the owner.

At CWTS we have experience, expertise and knowledge in woodland legislation and can provide advice on any woodland grants that may be available to you. Our management plans are guided by the UK Forestry Standard. Our passionate staff can be with you every step of the way to help achieve the long-term successful management of your woodland.

As well as Management plans for TPOs and Conservation areas we also undertake Estate Management Programmes. These place your woodland under our day to day management, lifting the burden to landowners and ensuring all the appropriate safety inspections and condition assessments are undertaken on a regular basis.
